Travel: Maldives 2014

Third country I have been to and I live in two countries (layovers don't count). Well, my family have never traveled before in other countries so this was something!

We stayed in the Maldives for only 4 days and 3 nights. From the airport we took a speedboat straight to the island of Maafushi. The island is inhabited with locals. It has their own hotels for tourists but most of the island is for the residents. Their beach was only a small fraction of the island, this area was the only area people were allowed to wear their bikinis and swimming trunks since it's a Muslim country they covered the area with a fence.

On our second day we went on an island resort of Fihalohi! This is where we found the villas that stood above the sea. We only stayed for a whole day with lunch and went back to the inn in Maafushi before sun down. On our way back, we got stranded in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It was absolutely terrifying! Our speedboat ran out of petrol and we had to wait for another one from Maafushi to take us and bring a gallon.

On our third and last full day we went to the beach area of Maafushi before getting on a ferry to Male, the capital city. It was unpleasant compared to the island environment but we had to see it all! We took a walk around the city after lunch because you can't really cab it anywhere, they only have one-way roads. Also came across the market which looked like it doesn't happen all the time. It was like a bazaar but they sold household items as well. Saw their Artificial Beach, Grand Friday Mosque, the Sultan's Park, Jumhooree Maidhaan, their White House/Malacanang and many more. Had dinner at a Thai restaurant named Thai Wok just right in front of Trader's Hotel on our last night in Maldives!

And finally, we flew back to Dubai on the 4th day.
